Form Agreements: To Use or Not to Use

Every business, big or small, will at any given point in their lifespan need some type of contract. In this day and age one can find just about anything on the internet, and form agreements are no exception. While it may be tempting to simply fill in your information and print out a ready-made contract, one should think twice before blindly relying on any agreement created on a Legal Documents/Forms website, or even worse, found through a random Google search.

Any lawyer can whole-heartedly tell you that there is no "one size fits all" contract. This isn't because we are trying to create extra work for ourselves and bill you. Lawyers are trained to sniff out potentially troublesome situations. You can think of us as the narcotics detecting dogs of the business world. With this capability we can anticipate prospective problems that may arise and use our legal prowess to avoid them, thereby saving you potentially higher legal fees in the future. So, while at the onset it may be easier and cheaper to take the DIY approach to contracts, you may inadvertently be setting yourself or your business up for trouble in the long run. There is of course no harm in looking up form agreements and familiarizing yourself with common terms or clauses, but at the very least it is advisable to consult with an experienced attorney prior to putting ink to paper.
